Working Voices

WHO WE ARE

Working Voices are social media content creators David Tarren and Ian Tasker, long time friends who came together at the start of 2023 with the aim of capturing the personal experiences of workers on strike.

Frustrated by reading striking workers described as troublemakers and selfish, the duo embarked on a new venture in an attempt to reveal the realities of industrial disputes and the challenges and risks faced by working people when they decide to take action.

The pair are currently touring the country to interview individual workers involved in disputes and strike action and plan to release a full documentary later this spring. In the meantime they are releasing shorter, bite-sized, films on a regular basis along the journey.  All of this material is uploaded to the Working Voices YouTube channel and Twitter account.

If you would like to use our materials for education purposes then you can do so free of charge.   All of our video output can be found by visiting our YouTube channel and all that we ask in return is an email with a link to your organisation's site (and any positive feedback would be very welcome !).

OUR SERVICES

Working Voices specialises in documenting the social and economic impacts of working life.

We are Unique

We are unique.  Working Voices embodies a rich and diverse range of specialisms within a single entity, due to our diverse and distinct careers spanning nearly five decades.

Ian Tasker has spent the past two decades as an I.T engineer maintaining networks within manufacturing and online retail

David Tarren spent 15 years working within the British trade union movement and equally as long working as an specialist consultant for trade unions, combined with periods as a visiting research fellow in workplace democracy and undergraduate lecturer in employment relations.

This unique combination of skill and knowledge sits at the heart of Working Voices

We are Informal

Our approach to documentary film making exploits our seemingly unrelated career paths - providing our clients with dynamic and real-life programmes that focus on working people and the realities of their working lives.

This rather unusual combination of our individual experiences and competences have created a unique working relationship that delivers unique output.

Working Voices explore, interpret and reveal the central issues of work and working people and does so through a deliberately informal and highly personal frame of reference.
